I can't believe it's really been this long since we updated the blog...where in the world does the time go?
Summer was great. Elizabeth took a 2-week Speech class to get it over with. Ended up being better than she thought it was gonna be...but still glad it's over. We hung out around the house, watched a lot of One Tree Hill, went to Six Flags - about dropped dead from the heat, did a little swimming, and had a lot of fun.
Erin turned 10. She had a sleepover with a few friends and had a blast. Elizabeth turned 16...believe it. She decided to go to the Main Event - family entertainment center with some friends. We played laser tag, pool, and shuffle board. Lines were too long for bowling...have to do it next time.
And now...school starts back up. Elizabeth has a challenging year ahead. She's taking Physics, AP English, Pre-Cal, Spanish 3, History, Early childhood development, a computer class, and an Ag class - design and fabrication. Turns out the Ag class is not what was thought...floral design, etc. It's actually a welding class...too funny thinking about E welding some metal. She wants to stay in the class. We'll let everyone know if the fire department gets any calls because of our girl.
Em is back in the swing of things already. She has some good classes and good teachers. She is cheering again this year and has had a couple of practices. She made All-American again this summer during cheer camp. She played summer volleyball to get ready for the school year. Looks like it paid off...she just made the A team in volleyball. Em's gonna be a busy girl again this year.
Erin is as excited as excited can be...she is now a middle-schooler. They have lockers in the hallway now. She had some issues getting used to opening the combination, but it seems to be all good now. So far, Erin's favorite class is gym. Go figure...just like her Dad. Although, Dad really liked lunch too. Erin is considering taking Tennis back up. Right now she wants to do Tennis and cheer. We'll see if that changes.
Melinda is finally out at Academy with the girls. It's always a challenge to adapt to a new environment, but Melinda is really liking it so far. She is stressing about having everything in place already, but that's Melinda. Erin is really happy...she had Melinda teaching her Math and Social Studies. Should be a great year!

the New Year...2011
Hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas, as well as New year celebration. Christmas was great for the Chavez house. We got to stay in town and avoid all of the traffic on the freeway. We got to spend time with family and enjoy the holiday. We all managed to get a little sick, bronchitis & sinus infections, but it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the holiday. We spent a night in on New Year's Eve watching movies and the countdown. The Christmas break has been so much fun getting to spend time together, it's going to be hard to go back to work. Hope everyone has a blessed New Year. We're going to hold on tight and enjoy the ride...

Christmas Break
We actually made it to Christmas break. Everyone has been so busy, we weren't too sure we would make it. All of us are looking forward to a little "down" time.
Erin - Erin has been really busy with school. She had her Christmas program at school. The theme was Jinglebell jukebox. Erin wore a poodle-skirt. She looked really cute. She had a great time singing during the program. Erin didn't make the UIL team for math, but did make it for oral reading. They go to competition in January. She is super excited. Erin says she is the most ready for Christmas...I believe her!
Emily - Em participated in UIL competition for math and calculator. There were 7 schools that participated. Em finished 3rd in calculator and 2nd in math...YEA! She was really pleased with the results. Basketball is going great. She wasn't too sure about it when she started, but has really taken to it. She is averaging about 8 points and 8 steals a game. Em had a band concert last week that went really well too. Em is ready to not get up too early during the next 2 weeks.
Elizabeth - E finished finals and had a good semester. She is taking pre-AP classes that take up a ton of time studying and homework. She has done a great job managing her time. E completed the classroom portion of driver's education. She is now beginning to drive the car with Mom and Dad. E is ready...Mom and Dad are a different story.
Melinda - Mel has had a good year so far...much better than last year. She is ready for the school break, but has been so busy it doesn't look like much of a break.
Eric - just got back from the last business trip for the year (Orlando). Ready to enjoy the holidays and not drive anywhere...

October 2010
Well, no more excuses...just been really busy. We got together with the Nieto family to celebrate Halloween. They were gracious enough to have us over with some family. We had a blast! The kids had fun playing, carving pumpkins, going Trick or Treating, and watching a little baseball. E had gotten too old to T or T and Em doesn't want to wear a costume any longer (although she was willing to help Erin out with eating her candy).
We had the little Bee cheer camp this month. Erin got to go on a saturday and learn some cheers and a dance or two. The little girls then got to attend one of the varsity football games and cheer for the 1st quarter. Erin had so much fun. E and Em were cheering at the game with her. Em cheered for the 1st half and then she was gone to get ready for the dance. E had a great time with the little pre-K girls in her group. Think she may have enjoyed being with them more than cheering at the game.
Erin - Erin is having great year so far. She loves her teacher, Mrs. Pritchard. Erin tried out for UIL competition in number sense and math. Let's hope she makes the team! Erin is thinking about trying out for a part in our local civic theatre's play, Annie. She's still uncertain, but has a friend doing it so she may take the plunge. We'll keep you updated on the status of that....
Em - Em finished volleyball season and really enjoyed it. She is trying out for basketball but doesn't really care for it. Quote..."Dad, I don't think I like basketball. Why not? You don't get to bump or even touch the other players. We scrimmaged today, and I fouled out in 5 minutes." We'll see how basketball goes, but it's not looking like she enjoy it as much as volleyball. Em had a cotillion dance a couple of weeks ago...the theme was the 50's. Em had a good time but doesn't know how girls managed to wear poodle skirts and not sweat to death.
E - E has been super busy. She has loved cheering this year, especially the couple of times the team has won. She was considering going to Europe with her class over Spring Break, but may wait until next year. The class goes to London, around England, and to Paris. Sounds like a fun trip when she's ready to go. E took the PSAT and we should get her results pretty soon. E is considering going into Engineering or maybe teaching. E is going to a Dallas Cowboy game in a couple of weeks with her friend, Cayton. E is really excited about the game, but isn't too sure about the Cowboys being able to win one now.

First week of school
Well...here we go back at school and all the activities. The girls had a great week of getting back to school. Everyone loves their classes (a couple sophmore classes haven't started so great, but they'll be good - positive thinking!!).
Erin loves her new teacher, Mrs. Pritchard. She is ready to hit a high in her AR points this year. That's her goal, anyway. Erin started taking gymnastics again and just asked about taking tennis again. We'll have to see about that one.
Em has started school athletics (volleyball). They find out next week which team they are on - A, B, or C. Em had a soccer tournament in San Antonio this past weekend. The team started off rocky (lost their first 2 games) on Saturday. They came out Sunday with a vengeance. Beat first team 3-0, second team 2-0, and made it to the championship game. They ended up losing that game 1-0 on a penalty kick. Em played well and had all 5 assists. She is still tired from the weekend.
Elizabeth had her first varsity football game she cheered at this past friday. She did a great job and had a lot of fun. E got to do homework almost all weekend. She has AP English, Chemistry, Algebra 2, Spanish 2, World History, Digital Graphics, and Art. Hello homework!
Melinda is excited about the school year. She has a pretty good class and went back to 4th grade. We're hoping for a great year.

End of summer
Wow! Did the summer seem to go by really fast to everyone else too. We were really busy this summer, but it went by way too fast. Some of the things we did this summer:
We went to Great Wolf Lodge (a hotel with its own indoor waterpark). Elizabeth had cheer camp there, so we decided to have some fun with her. Elizabeth was there Monday - Thursday. We went up on Wednesday and spent the night. Got up early Thursday to catch E and the Academy cheer squad for the final day. We hung at the hotel for another night having fun in the water. Still not sure who had more fun...the girls or Mom and Dad.
We had our air-conditioner go out (I mean completely die) 2 weeks ago. Good thing it waited until we were in the middle of the 100+ degree weather - wouldn't have been fun otherwise. Took us about 4 days to get a new one. The girls enjoyed staying at hotels around Temple...Mom & Dad not so much. We have a functioning A/C now, so all is good.
Erin and Emily did summer track with the Temple Flyers Track club. They both had a lot of fun and got to compete in meets. Erin competed in the 100M dash and the long jump. She did really well and her times kept getting better. Her longest jump was 7'4". She didn't place in the top 4 at the regional meet, so she didn't get to compete at the state meet.
Emily ran the 100M dash, 4X400 relay, and the 80M hurdles. Em qualified for state in the 4X400M relay and hurdles. There were kids from all over the state (Lubbock, Laredo, El Paso, Amarillo, San Antonio, and Dallas that came to Waco for state). Em's relay team finished 13th in state out of 22 teams. Em finished 13th in state in the hurdles out of 27 kids. She was unhappy with her performance because she didn't run a clean race (she hit 2 hurdles, almost fell after the 2nd, and still beat 2 girls in her heat). We were very proud of her.
Em had cheer camp back in July. She was so excited and got to talk to E and Mom about everything they were learning. Em made All-American. I'm not sure what that means, but she was invited to go to Houston at Thanksgiving with other All-Americans and be in the parade.
E had a great time at cheer camp. She loves the dancing portion of their routines. She obviously gets that from Dad....urrrrrr, maybe Mom. E spent time hanging at the mall, going to the movies with her buddy (Cayton), and being a teenager. She is really excited about school starting because the first Friday night of school, they have a football game. Their first pep rally is Friday afternoon. E is ready to roll....
